Glowing Rose
The rose is very likely the flower most portrayed by artists throughout the centuries. When I encountered this full-bloom beauty in the Ringling Museum's rose garden, I knew I had to challenge myself to capture its blazing radiance. My Shell Fragments series taught me so much about translucency, glow, and reflection that I can use in other subject matter; certainly, it was the case with this yellow rose. I especially love the deep orange glow that radiates from the heart of the blossom, which contrasts so well with the upper surfaces of light-struck petals.
The original painting was about 18" x 24," painted in rich, soft pastel pigment on paper. Although it has yet to become a limited edition giclée, thanks to CafePress, I am able to share it with my fellow rose-lovers in various ways, all of which are very budget-conscious. Please follow this link to my CafePress Shop and stop to enjoy the roses when you arrive! |
